Dr. Thomas Mattair

Dr. Mattair was the Executive Director of the Middle East Policy Council from 2009 through 2020. He had previously served as the Council’s Director of Research from 1992 through 1995. In the intervening years he was a Research Scholar at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi, where he researched and wrote The Three Occupied UAE Islands: the Tunbs and Abu Musa (2005). He is also the author of Global Security Watch: Iran (2008) and many journal, magazine and newspaper articles. He continues to provide consulting services to financial services firms and commentary to the media.

Dr. Mattair began his career teaching at Kent State University, the University of Southern California, the University of California at Riverside, and Cornell University. He is a cum laude graduate of Harvard and earned his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.
