The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations is pleased to welcome Professor Dr. Bruno M. Damiani as Diplomatic Liaison for the organization.
Professor Damiani’s extensive relationships within the diplomatic, academic, and cultural communities will greatly enhance the Council’s mission of fostering constructive engagement and mutual understanding between the United States and the Arab world.
A distinguished scholar of Romance Languages and Literatures and Comparative Literature, Professor Damiani has served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Education and the National Endowment for the Arts and the Humanities. His academic career has been dedicated to advancing the study of language, literature, culture, and international intellectual exchange.
Central to Professor Damiani’s teaching and scholarship in Spanish Medieval and Renaissance literature has been an enduring focus on the extraordinary contributions of Arab civilization to the development of Western culture. Throughout his work at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, he has emphasized the profound influence of the Arab world on the Iberian Peninsula, particularly in the development of the Castilian language and its literature, the transmission of classical philosophy, and the rich artistic and architectural traditions that helped shape Spain and, ultimately, broader European civilization.
This scholarly focus on the historical and cultural connections between the Arab world and Europe reflects the values and objectives of the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations. Professor Damiani’s expertise and longstanding commitment to intercultural understanding will contribute meaningfully to the Council’s educational, diplomatic, and outreach initiatives.
Professor Damiani also serves as General Editor of Scripta Humanistica, a respected academic publishing house that has produced nearly two hundred scholarly volumes in the fields of English, American, Spanish, Latin American, French, and Italian studies.
