Hezbollah supporters to be thrown out of GCC countries

Members of Lebanon’s Hezbollah who are residing in Gulf Cooperation Council states will pay the price for the Shiite movement’s military role in Syria against freedom fighters. A GCC statement, citing a ministerial council decision, said the measures will affect Hezbollah members’ “residency permits, and financial and commercial transactions.” The statement urged the Lebanese government to “assume its responsibilities toward the behavior of Hezbollah and its illegal and inhumane practices in Syria and the region.”

In a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah said that Kuwait has reached agreements with Iraq on their outstanding issues to pave the way for ending Iraq’s Chapter VII status. “An agreement on the maintenance of border markers has been inked during foreign minister Zebari’s recent visit to Kuwait,” Sheikh Sabah said, adding that “representatives of the two countries will meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to hand him a copy of the agreement to be deposited at the UN.” The Kuwaiti diplomat also noted that Kuwait has agreed on moving a number of the files from the Chapter VII to Chapter VI of the UN Charter.

Safety a priority for UAE’s peaceful Nuclear programme

Concerns about safety have been raised as South Korea’s nuclear programme remains mired in a corruption scandal, but the UAE’s nuclear authority, on Monday said robust surveillance and stringent quality controls have ensured that construction of its reactors in Barakah are not affected in any way. Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco), the main contractor tasked by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation to build the UAE’s four nuclear plants, has been at the centre of the probe in South Korea. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Fahad Al Qahtani, External Affairs and Communications Director at the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec), said the scandal will not impact the UAE’s peaceful nuclear programme and is limited to South Korean reactors.

The 10th US-Islamic World Forum concluded here at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel with a declaration of a set of recommendations calling for enhancement of freedom of expression, freedom of religion, social change and prevention from economic collapse. The Forum also called for  promoting  the overall growth in Egypt and Tunisia as well as  enhancing the rights of women in Islamic countries that suffer conflict in addition to  common interests and to participate in a dynamic world. It  also called  for religious tolerance and encouraging governments to conduct reforms in a transparent manner and involve the public in decisions  making  to achieve development, justice and the establishment of a strong economy and the fight against corruption and the involvement of women in economic activities in the medium term.
