The Majority Bloc is set to meet on Saturday to evaluate the latest developments on the political front, and will discuss multiple topics as part of its agenda, including Monday’s demonstration as well as a proposal aimed at criminalizing hate speech that was announced recently. In the meantime, the National Front for the Protection of the Constitution held a press conference on Monday where they sent messages to the Prime Minister HH Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah and to the Supreme Judicial Council with regard to the Cabinet challenging electoral laws.

Oman ranks high in economic freedom

On the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) front, Oman is ranked fifth. Bahrain is the best performer in 7th, followed by the UAE in 11th, Qatar 17th, Kuwait 19th and Saudi Arabia trailing in 65th.

From a broader regional perspective, Oman scores very well in comparison to Jordan 23rd, Tunisia 80th and Egypt 99th.
The annual peer-reviewed Economic Freedom of the World Report is produced by the Fraser Institute, one of Canada’s leading public policy think-tanks, in co-operation with independent institutes in over 80 nations and territories.

Landmark EU – GCC Parliamentary Meeting

The GCC parliamentary delegations held a two-hour preparatory meeting Tuesday night in order to present a unified position on issues that will be discussed with the EU Parliamentarians.
Topics like human rights, women’s rights and the current developments in the Arab world are expected to be raised during the meeting between the GCC parliamentarians and the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Commitee.
Al-Omair said “we must stress our values and religious beliefs on issues like human rights, womens’ rights and it is in our interest to find common denominators to cooperate and build bridges with Europe.
