2015 Washington, DC Summer Internship Program Pictures

The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations’ 2015 Washington, DC Summer Internship Program concluded last week. For 10 weeks the 25 student interns 1) worked at various Near East and Arab world related organizations in Washington; 2) took part in site visits to central institutions of federal government, national security policymaking, international diplomacy, and international business; and 3) completed a twice-weekly evening academic seminar on Arabia and the Gulf. Congratulations to the 2015 intern program participants for a great summer!

2015 National University Model Arab League Pictures

The 2015 National University Model Arab League, held April 10-12 in Washington, DC, brought together over 350 students from 25 universities. Through participation in Model Arab League students learn about the politics and history of the Arab world, and the arts of diplomacy and public speech. Model Arab League helps prepare students to be knowledgeable, well-trained, and effective citizens as well as civic and public affairs leaders.

2015 Ohio Valley Model Arab League Pictures

The 2015 Ohio Valley Model Arab League was held February 19-21 at Miami University in Oxford, OH. Through participation in the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations’ Model Arab League program students learn about the politics and history of the Arab world, and the arts of diplomacy and public speech. Model Arab League helps prepare students to be knowledgeable, well-trained, and effective citizens as well as civic and public affairs leaders.

2014-15 Model Arab League Study Visit to Saudi Arabia Pictures

The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations led a delegation of ten students and five university faculty members, all selected from the Council’s Model Arab League program, on a study visit to Saudi Arabia from December 28, 2014 – January 7, 2015. The goal of the visit was to provide an empirical educational introduction to the kingdom’s culture and society for a select group of American students and faculty members who have performed exceptionally well in the Model Arab League program. During the course of their visit, the delegation met Saudi Arabian educators, business representatives, civil society leaders, and American diplomats in addition to visiting numerous sites of cultural, developmental, and historical interest.

2014 Model Arab League Study Visit to Qatar Pictures

The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations led a delegation of ten students and five university faculty members, all selected from the Council’s Model Arab League program, on a study visit to Qatar from November 28 – December 5, 2014. The visit provided the American students and faculty members an opportunity to explore the dynamics of some of the major economic, political, and social determinants of Qatar’s culture as well as the country’s modernization and development.

2014 Washington, DC Summer Internship Program Pictures

The National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations’ 2014 Washington, DC Summer Internship Program brought 25 undergraduate and graduate students to the nation’s capital for a unique ten-week professional, academic, and career exploration opportunity. As always, the program featured a demanding mix of professional involvement, intellectual challenge, and cultural encounters designed to provide interns with a rich and varied experience during their time in Washington. Interns were placed with one of over a dozen Near East and Arab world-related organizations in Washington, where they worked full-time under the direct supervision of their host organizations. Interns also took part in twice-weekly seminar sessions designed to provide them with greater depth of knowledge about the Arab world, to underscore the cultural, economic, and political diversity of Arab states, and to explore the intricacies of Arab-U.S. relations. Additionally, interns received a behind-the-scenes look at many of the central institutions of federal government, national security policymaking, international diplomacy, and international business.

2014 Summer Intern Model Arab League Pictures

The 2014 Summer Intern Model Arab League, held July 12 in Washington, DC, brought together 42 students (33 of them first-time MAL participants) for an intensive, one-day introduction to the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations’ flagship student leadership development program. Through participation in Model Arab League (MAL) students learn about the politics and history of the Arab world, and the arts of diplomacy and public speech. MAL helps prepare students to be knowledgeable, well-trained, and effective citizens as well as civic and public affairs leaders. During the upcoming 2014-15 academic year the National Council will hold 22 MALs for high school and collegiate students throughout the United States.
