Tanker Leaves Gash in U.S. Destroyer After Collision Near Strait of Hormuz

The collision tore a hole about 10 feet by 10 feet in the right side of the destroyer, the Porter, above the water line. No one on the Porter or the other vessel, a Japanese-owned bulk oil carrier called the Otowasan, was hurt, the Navy said in a statement.

The Navy said that the collision, which happened about 1 a.m., was not “combat related,” but that its cause had not been determined. Greg Raelson, a spokesman for the Navy, said Sunday afternoon that the destroyer had reached port in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

GCC FMs hold emergency meeting

The Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) member states held an emergency meeting in Jeddah yesterday evening under the chairmanship of Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al- Saud. 

HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani led Qatar’s delegation to the meeting.
The closed-door meeting discussed a range of regional issues among them is the crisis in Syria.

Speaker of the 2009 National Assembly Jassem Al-Khorafi officially informed HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah yesterday that it was not possible to convene the Assembly which was dissolved in December last year but reinstated in a court ruling in June. Khorafi submitted to the Amir a letter stating that it was not possible to implement the constitutional court ruling of June 20 which reinstated the 2009 Assembly and revived its constitutional powers.
