“Gold Falls speaks to cycles of climate change and globalism. The title invokes the different economic standards of gold, black gold (oil) and water, all of which have played a role in shaping the desert oasis of Al-Ula. Like a mirage, the cascading tapestried surface of yellow plastic unfolds across the rock in both mimicry and dissonance. Serge Attukwei Clottey’s golden yellow outpouring upon the rockfaces of Al-Ula is simultaneously an image of abundance and lack within an environment which is simultaneously bereft and resplendent.”
