Libya from the Front Lines: Intelligence Briefing

Briefing with Richard Ayton, the Stabilization Advisor
to the British Special Representative to Libya

The Bilateral US-Arab Chamber of Commerce is proud to invite you to an intelligence briefing with Richard Ayton, recent Stabilization Advisor to the British Special Representative to Libya. Mr. Ayton will provide an exclusive firsthand account on the current state of Libya.

Richard Ayton, former Stabilization Advisor to the British Special Representative to Libya, will share his first-hand intelligence on the current political and commercial situation in Libya and the likely outlook for business interests there. He was deployed in early April 2011 to Benghazi to support policy-makers with analysis and insight based on deep engagement at all levels of the National Transitional Council and revolutionary militias. He has briefed widely within government and the private sector on the challenges facing the NTC and issues related to licensing and business in Libya during the transitional period. Ayton is a Director at Aegis, a London-based specialist risk management and security firm and BUSACC Strategic Partner member. He is a Cambridge-educated Arabist, who has worked as a foreign correspondent for Reuters and served as a reconnaissance officer in the British Army, completing two tours of duty in Iraq as an armored troop commander and, latterly, as an aide to the Commanding General in Basrah. Since 2009, Richard has headed Aegis Advisory's specialist advisory team, providing support to companies operating in opaque and challenging markets, including Libya and North Africa.

The 2011 Libyan Civil War is an ongoing conflict between Muammar Gaddafi's devoted regime and revolutionary militants. The demand for the removal of Gaddafi from office has resulted in the creation of the National Transitional Council, which has been in cooperation with the International Criminal Court during the ongoing investigation against the Libyan leader. Space is limited for this exclusive briefing on the outlook for Libya in the months ahead.
