Initially comprised of 60 members, its ranks have been expanded several times to its current total of 150 members. Appointed by the King for four-year terms, members of the Shura Council reflect a wide range of experience and are selected from among the ranks of business and professional leaders, former government officials, and academics. As the size of the Majlis Al-Shura has grown, so too has the scope of its advisory role. Committees of the Shura Council advise the King across a wide spectrum of issues including foreign relations, trade, investment, economic development, education, health care, environmental, family, and child development concerns.
