a conversation with a delegation representing the
Majlis Al-Shura (Consultative Council) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The Majlis Al-Shura dates its establishment from 1992. Initially comprised of 60 members, its ranks have been expanded several times to its current total of 150 members. Appointed by the King for four-year terms, members of the Shura Council reflect a wide range of experience and are selected from among the ranks of business and professional leaders, former government officials, and academics. As the size of the Majlis Al-Shura has grown, so too has the scope of its advisory role.
Committees of the Shura Council advise the King across a wide spectrum of issues including foreign relations, trade, investment, economic development, education, health care, environmental, family, and child development concerns. Members of the delegation of four men and one woman include:
